Region V
2007 Chapter's Regional Conference
August 9 - August 11, 2007
Kalamazoo, Michigan

Offsetting Emissions Caused by the
ASHRAE 2007 Region V CRC Meeting
The Cleaner and Greener®/Health and
Climate Care Emission Offset Program is working
with ASHRAE to
offset the emissions caused by the ASHRAE 2007 Region V CRC Meeting.
While most emission-offsetting programs focus only on greenhouse
gasses, this program
works to quantify and offset both the emissions
that negatively effect human health and the
climate. This
program makes it simple for organizations, buildings, events, and
individuals
to offset the full range of emissions caused by energy
use and have their achievements
certified.
Attendees of the ASHRAE 2007 Region V CRC Meeting have the
opportunity to make a small,
tax-deductible donation to offset their
share of the emissions created by their individual
attendance,
including travel, lodging, and event participation. A donation
per attendee
would purchase enough emission offsets, in conjunction
with other offset donations, to
offset the emissions from this event
by 100%. Go to
www.cleanerandgreener.org/eventcertification/events/ashrae2007MI.htm
to see the
emissions caused by the ASHRAE 2007 Region V CRC Meeting
and to make a donation. If
you need any additional
information, contact Leonardo Academy at (608) 280-0255 or
info@cleanerandgreener.org.
What are the donations for Offsets
Used For?
-
Donations are used by the Leonardo Academy's Cleaner and
Greener® Program to buy emission offsets in the competitive
voluntary emissions offset markets.
-
The offsets purchased are primarily from wind-powered
electricity generation, and some
may be from increased energy
efficiency, industrial process improvements, or other emission
reduction actions.
-
The primary factors used by the Leonardo Academy in deciding
which offsets to purchase are: the verification provided with
the offsets, the cost of the offsets, and the willingness of the
offset provider to also donate emission reductions to help
offset this event.
-
95% of each donation is used to purchase offsets, and 5% is used
to cover transaction processing costs including credit card
fees.
-
The Leonardo Academy is a charitable (501c3) nonprofit
organization, so donations are tax deductible to the full extent
allowed under the law.
